Hi mark, well there are several house jobs that need to be seen to, like painting plastering yada yada yada.......... i have to keep the missus happy as well, i have been postponing several home improvement projects to finish these 2 projects. So now i have to keep up my word that the home will be seen to, than i will tackle my off road race buggy which has been sitting in a store for the past 4 years, maybe i get racing again.

Here it is on its last race before storage

Hi Patrick,
Yes, I agree, you have to keep the other half happy, or you won't be able to start any more projects.

Speaking of which, you're off-road racer looks like an ideal project for the kids. Scale it down and they can go round tearing up the countryside, just like dad!

I am desparate to start another project, but want to get away from the 4 x 4  type of vehicle (which has many options) and do something completely different.

I have been 'doodling' (again) this morning, and have an idea forming. I've narrowed it down to 3 options, one will have to be completely scratch built, one other is available in kit form, but I want to 'scratch build' this also, to put my own stamp on it.
The problem with the third vehicle option, is that it has some complex curves around the front end, so a 'Buck' will have to be built and a fibreglass mould taken from it!

It's just the financial situation that's a problem at the moment, but I should be able to finance at least 2 of the options in the near future.

I keep mentioning this project, and seem to do nothing about it, but the enthusiasm and ideas are there, it's just the time and money that are the bugbear.
I'll get there in the end.

Keep Busy and well,
Regards to all,
Mark.

Grin  Speaking as the other half, don't mention the next project.. we havn't even got this one onto its wheels yet and already he wants to know what I would like him to build for me next. Huh  Wink Rather like the thought of a pink jeep but I'm not really a barbie type of girl so maybe not.  I'm just wondering how it will all get transported. Dont think they build motorhomes with a big enough weight capacity..  Perhaps a raffle ticket system for all the not yet completed projects to get their turn  being built over the summer and building Toylanders in the winter. Smiley

regards to all

Gremlins off road racer appears to be VW (suspect Beetle) based.  The VW logo on the side is one give away, along with the front torsion beam suspension and trailing arms.  Another option on a VW theme could be a beach buggy.  This company http://www.eastcoastbuggies.co.uk/index.php?id=8 produces a scaled down beach buggy shell, based on the Manx buggy.  Scroll down the page till you find the Mini Manx section.  They can even provide the shell in metaflake colours, very 70's retro chic!  Grin

Hi Patrick,
Many thanks for posting so many pictures, it is really helpful and your suspension looks fantastic!
I noticed that you are using a Chinese Yi Yun controller (I presume the Universal Controller). How did you find this? It looks easy to wire up since all of the connectors are labelled but as it is from a scooter, it does not have a reverse option. How did you overcome this? I was planning to use the 4QD VTX controller which has adjustable acceleration and deceleration ramps, reverse function, protection if reverse is selected before stopping, half speed reverse etc but the Chinese controller is attractive because it is 1/4 of the price of the 4QD controller!

Did you purchase the throttle pot from 4QD? (It looks the same one).

Regarding your suspension, why did you choose to make the frames in a triangle? Was it to hide the mountings under the tunnel? Or does it give the axles more freedom to pivot? I was wondering if parallel trailing arms would work just as well?
Regards
Mike

Hi Patrick,
Unfortunately, it did not come through (which seems strange as you say you sent it at 10.30 this morning). Could I trouble you to send it again?
Sorry for the inconvenice.

Quick update, toylander was out for the day after 10 months idle due to the rebuild of my big landy, together with my buggy, we were at a charity car show so i got out all the fleet of toys!

I am determined to make the toylander a bit more drivable as its high geared and will do nearly 8 mph or flat ground, to quick for kids, and also some sort of steering box, so 2010 will be upgrade year.

Happy Christmas to you all,

Regards
Patrick

Hi Patrick,

Nice to see the little landy out and about again, and glad to hear that the Big Landy has had it's re-fit (eventually).

We're all jealous of you sitting in the nice warm sunshine, it's been snowing here in the UK for the last few days, and most parts have had quite a heavy dusting.

I might even get the chance to get Harvey's car out on the field this year, and (finally) get some pictures of him driving it in the snow!!

The car was being build in '07 when it snowed, and was undergoing the re-fit last year, so I have not (deliberatly) done anything to it this year, so we can go out and play!

Hope you and the family have a great Christmas, and a better New Year!

Best Wishes,
Regards,
Mark, Dawn and Family.
