Toylander 3 Jeep (NL)
« on: 10 February, 2017, 08:31:34 PM »
Hi All,

At the moment I'm studying Electronics at the HAN University of Applied science. I'm building the Jeep just for fun.
Ever since I saw one drive I just want to have one too.

I've just started with the build of the Jeep. Just bought a non working mobility scooter.
The previous owner said it broke down more than 2 years ago.
After a quick inspection the batteries were dead and were beyond repair.

So I ordered 2 new batteries and a charger.
When they arrived I used a Hex key to start the mobility scooter. (ridiculous how these things are protected)
Only the lights and honk worked perfect. The wheels didn't turn.

After measuring different parts the problem should be located in the motor.
So unscrewed the motor and the coaldust just falls out. The brushes were completely gone.
Brushes are expensive in Holland especially those for mobility scooters. 30 euro apiece and I needed 4 of those.

Luckily the German Bundeswehr use the same brushes and via EBay I bought 10 brushes for less than 20 euro including shipping.
Just soldered the brushes in the motor and placed everything back together and started the scooter.
It works like a charm.

So I have a working motor with controller for a dollar on the dime.

Thanks.
I live between Arnhem and the German border.

As donor I used a Booster Town & Country (TC-128). There are a lot of these things but most are expensieve for a Toylander.
It came with a seat with air suspension. So now I have a new office chair.

I think Booster became Shoprider. There design is identical.
A couple years ago I saw one drive at the Ginkelse heide by Ede.
Was it yours?

And after the first drive the batteries seemded to be to weak, so had to buy some new ones. And during this drive my son took his friends with him and 6 kids and a tight corner were not a good combination. So I still have to weld te rear wheel again....

Looks very nice. Especially the stickers on the dashboard and the letters, stars around the jeep.
It gives the jeep its authentic look.

Too bad it broke down.
Hopefully your son and his friends will soon be able to roam the streets once again.

Hopefully mine will be finished this year. But first I have to start buying and cutting wood.

A lot has happened since the last update. I've cut all the panels and give them a coat of primer.
I've also programmed the Arduino to control the 3 gauges.
Inside the cockpit I will fit the 3 analogue gauges to give the actual battery voltage, current of the motor and the actual speed. The last one will need some tweaking to give the correct speed.
When the cockpit is fully assembled I will show some pictures.
This is the current state of my Toylander.
