I found that I had to use:-

bolt - front bracket - brass washer - axle - brass washer - rear bracket - lots of washers - nut.

The bolt has a shank to it, and the axle and both brackets need to be on the shank to ensure that the axle is level.  If you add a washer between bolt and front bracket, you may find that the rear bracket is resting on the threads of the bolt, and not the shank.

Hi Tosh, The small piece of angle needs to be fitted to the top of the axle to stop the steering column foot getting past the top of the axle should you have fully turned right lock and the nearside wheel be on full compression. ATB Richard

That'll also explain the pre-drilled hole in the axle at about that position!  I'll be back under the Toylander with the spanners then, as I also need to fit the small piece of angle.
Sorry, you will need to drill your own hole mounting the angle on the top face as close to the end as possible. The other holes are used in the tractor and the building jig. ATB Richard

I can't see that piece of angle anywhere in the instruction book. I am assuming it screws on the axle at the steering column end in the pre-drilled holes. Does the angle sit up, down, left or right? Or am I grabbing the wrong end of the stick

You will need to drill your own hole, mounting the angle on the top face as close to the end of the axle as possible. Have the upright face of the angle bracket flush with the axle face. This mod is to overcome the possiblity of the steering column end becoming jammed on top of the axle. It is a new mod and not yet in the manual.

I noticed that Tesco is selling a 350W jigsaw for £9.99 today! When I got home, I saw that my Bosch one is only 250W! I didn't look closely to see if it comes with many blades etc but for anyone on a really tight budget, it could be worth it. The traditionalist woodworkers will probably say you could cut it all by hand but for most of us, a jigsaw is absolutely essential. I would also say a circular saw too for the straight edges and angled joints eg windscreen panel.
