Hi Bob,
Not such a daft idea in my opinion, although just who would run it, I don't know?

It would help with locating stolen vehicles I suppose, but if people register on the forum, and post pictures of their vehicles, as we are all doing at present, surely that in it's self is a sort of register?

As for the idea for a meeting, it's currently under discussion, with several locations being banded about. The most popular idea for the venue, is somewhere in the Midlands, as this would be more 'Central', and easier to reach for all those wishing to make the journey.

There's a lot of anticipation and enthusiasm concerning a 'Toylander' get-together, and Richard Shepard has hinted that it might happen sometime this year, but the question of 'Public Liability' insurance for those attending and wishing to drive their 'Toylanders' has been raised, so this needs to be looked into.

So you're not as 'Mad' as you think!!

Hope this helps,
Regards,
Mark.

I would have thought that this site acts as a good register of the vehicles for the people who wish to take part without any other formality other than perhaps provision within the profile section to list the components or details of our vehicles.

Colour.
Number of motors, motor size and voltage.
Battery voltage and size.
Wheel and tyre size.
Working headlights.
Working sidelights.
Working indicators.
Working horn.
Working Instruments and types.
Innovative features.ie. Geared steering, disc brakes. etc.
Safety features, ie. remote kill switch.
And any other headings that members feel are relevant.

As far as meeting up somewhere, there sre several problems.

Not all of us have the facilities to be able to transport our "Toylander" to whichever site, so the prospect of a convoy of "Toylander" models circumnavigating somewhere might not be as possible as writing about it might suggest.

The issue of insurance seems to be quite easy to settle, Richards has a link on site to an Insurance broker not a million miles away from where I type this, and the cost of public liability for our type of needs appears to be ?15 to ?20, so that is an easy solution, and it might be possible, through this site, as in kit car club sites, to negotiate a discount.

And Finally, Richards attends several of the kit car sites around the country I believe.  Now I am a fairly regular supporter of these venues which are usually at the various agricultural show grounds scattered around the country.  Examples being, Peterborough, Newark, Harrogate, Exeter, Stafford, and until last year, the Castle Donnington Race track.  There are also lots of other vehicle oriented shows scattered around our sceptered isle which he might visit, so we have plenty of venues I would have thought without the need for any of us to travel great distances.

If you look at the main page you will see that Richard has provision to list various venues that he intends to visit, but at my last viewing he has not inserted any yet, but he will.

All we need to do is pick a venue that suits us travel wise, and arrange on here to meet at the Toylander stand at that site.  Those with suitable transport can bring along there model, the rest of us will just present ourselves and retire somewhere for a sticky bun and a cup of tea.

How's that for an idea.

Regards to all,

Brian

HI
Brian
I think you have hit several nails on the head there Brian.
A bit of space on the profile page for more details sounds like a great idea. Possibly some personal details, and some model details. After all this is the "Owners Club Website" not just a forum!
What you say about meeting up is also very relevant, we all talk about it, but for most people it's going to be difficult to transport a model and a family, however big the family car. But I'm all for the sticky bun idea.
We have a motorhome. only a small door, so model can't go inside, but it has a towbar, and I have a motorbike trailer that I may modify. Another project, and needs new tyres, lights, theres no end to it!
I thought I may trail it behind the car, but have you seen the price of towbars?....back to the sticky bun idea and some photos I think.......but seriously, I would love to meet up with other builders sometime
Best Wishes
Walter

mmmm its all very interesting, ive been involved in organising (site manager and safety officer) for a very large steam rally / vintage show sorting the insurance out is no big issue, we had 30 plus 20 ton steam engines running round a field with jo public 200 tractors, cars, lorries etc and had no big issues or costs. as for events I do all the big land rover shows with the real thing, i only know that the big shows billing, eastnor, gaydon etc like a register / club to have a committee chairman constitution etc before they allow them to attend..

As for getting them about i bought a box trailer it swallows 2 up but will soon be converted to 3 i think..  i can get one in the back of my 4x4 but as thats an off roader getting it from ground to the load bay is a nightmare..

Just fuel to the question.

Hi Guys,
I think that the venue is going to be a case of when and where and I'll be there for most of us. As you say, It's the problem of transporting the little beasties (cars, not kids) that's going to be the bug-bear for most.

Maybe it's time for Walter to build his lorry (told you it would have to be a car transporter), then he can collect members on the way to the show!

As for the 'sticky buns', my waistline says i'll have to pass!!

Needless to say, me and the car will be there, providing the distance isn't too great (midlands is fine), as cost will be an issue, but I'll start feeding my piggy bank soon!

Here's to the bunfest,
Regards,
Mark.

Register sounds like a really good idea could go for just the basic such as type, colour or modifications.  As for the sticky buns if we are free we would probably attend. Lets see where and when Richard goes out with the stand.  Got ours insured via Walker Midgley for about ?32 with no problems at all.  The people who do our miniature steam insurance would not cover the Toylander as it is electric. Hope to take it to some local steam rallies over the summer.  At present its sat literally in the living room keeping warm  ;) well its too cold for the paint to dry outside after the wife has painted it.  Shes a bit nesh as well.

Hi Brian,
We've only had about 30 mm of the fluffy stuff here in Bolton, and most of it's melted overnight. Not had the heavy covering that they predicted, so we're lucky I suppose.

Time to get Travis out in the Toylander and take some pictures of him having fun I think, Brian.

Keep warm and safe,
Best Regards,
Mark.

:)Hi to both of you, I am in Derby and we had about 2 inches of the snowy stuff which thankfully melted overnight but left it a bit icy.  Brian at 8.09 our Toylander looked out of the window and thought better of it, Mark at 10.17 our Toylander said thank goodness it got its underside painted over the weekend and it was too cold to be outside.  When I passed a traffic island at 7.30 am on my push bike the temp on a building nearby registered -3.  Roll on Spring.  Anyway we are having difficulty in re sizing pictures to get them posted on here. Any ideas.
Thanks Paul

Hello Paul.

I used to resize my photo's for this forum using Adobe "Photoshop", but the size of the resized photos that would be accepted by this forum were only small, so I was converted to "Photobucket".

This is a free forum where your photo's can be uploaded to and then a reference to that photo is incorporated in your post, and every time your post is accessed on the forum, the associated photo is called up, as though it was there all the time.

just "Google" "Photobucket" and follow the instructions.

Regards,

Brian.

There are some notes at the top of this forum section about posting photos. If you still can not post photos after reading the posts let me know where the problem is and I will see if can expand on them.

There are loads of free resizing programs and here is a link to a site that has some http://www.snapfiles.com/Freeware/gmm/fwgcomp.html You do not need a full program as there are some programs you just need to drag and drop your photo over the icon and it is automaticaly resized and saved.

If you are doing a lot of photos I like Multiple Image Resizer .NET  but you need the .NET software installed.

Hi Paul,
If you look down the list in the 'General Discussion' section, you will see a thread titled 'Photobucket or Whatever', if you look on the second page I have covered the method I use to upload pictures to photobucket. I know it works, because Walter (Multisync) has followed the directions successfully.

I too had trouble uploading pictures in the begining, but find it easy now (I bet Anthony wishes I didn't) using the method described, it seams to be a problem area, and I feel it depends largely on what photo software you have available on your computer.

Keep Busy,
Regards,
Mark.
