Advise on best place to sell a Toylander + Value......
« on: 12 January, 2009, 01:45:12 PM »
A friend of a friend of mine has a 90% finished toylander 2 he needs to sell... where do people think is the best place to advertise it and how much do others think its worth?

Ive already got 3 and 2 on the go and a shed full of tractors and a few Sinclair C5's or i would have it..

Any advise greatfully received.....

Hello Bob.

His best bet would be an email to Richard, he sometimes has second hand vehicles for sale I understand and would know the kind of price they fetch.

It all depends on the quality of construction, how many additions/improvenents etc. which without a detailed description and or a viewing makes it hard to asses.

I would think that it would be difficult to make any Toylander for much less than ?500, and when selling second hand goods, half the original price seems to be a general starting point, so that makes it about ?250.

You can buy plastic electric children's sit in toy cars for that or a little less, so that could be a reasonable starting point, but it realy is a "how long is a piece of string" question.

I hope he has good luck with the sale.

Brian.

Sorry Bob, just realised I have not addressed the where to sell question.

I would have thought that one of the three kit car magazines, the two Car DIY magazines, the Land Rover magazine and any 4by4 magazines would be the best place to advertise.

I think several of them are targeted by Richard with his Toylander advert.

Brian.

Hi Bob
Best of luck with the sale. They do occassionally appear on ebay, so a search of completed listings may be worthwhile research, but I think that there are a couple of problems here.
Anyone who wants a finished model wouldnt be interested in part finished, and any one who wants to build his own wouldn't be interested in part finished, as he wants to do the building himself; the exception being if its very cheap!
In my experience part finished models of any type are, unfortunately, of very little value, I feel his best bet is to get it finished. Even then it would need to be a super model to have any real value; or go the other way and sell the parts. Either way the value will probably be much less than the cost of building.
Ask anyone who's into kitcars and you'll find out that they have to be exceptional to command good prices, and half finished ones just don't get the money.
There was a DBR tractor kit on ebay, some months back, complete kit, with extra motor, speed control, and other bits and pieces including a completed body tub, all sold for about ?400, probably a third of cost!
Perhaps some detail pictures posted here will generate some interest!
Best of luck
regards
Walter
