Bit more work done this week, I've now stripped the scooter down and cleaned up the motor and gearbox(es)...

I've had a play around and think I've got a relatively simple way of mounting the drive using a 20mm axle supported on a pair of pedestal bearings:

This should allow me to have the complete powertrain mounted in the chassis and the body will drop on top. It also gives the option to bolt the second motor in next to the first with only a minor mod to split the axle.

I've got the material to build the chassis so can hopefully get it welded up by the end of next week...

Bearings arrived yesterday, look just the job. The benefit of using this type is the outer race is spherical so the assembly can cope with a little misalignment (which I don't doubt be the case!) before its all clamped up.

Got the chassis welded up also, made the most of a bit of sun and got it out of the garage.

I haven't welded the bearing supports or the gearbox mounts on yet as i don't want to fix the axle height until I've decided on how to do the steering as I want the front and rear height to be the same.

Next job is to cut the floor out for the motor and start on the steering... 8)

Not done much on the Jeep this week other than made the cut-out for the motors in the base and glue some of the panels/sections together for a final fit.

Its really starting to look like a Jeep now  :)

Next up steering...
