Softstart

Hello, I'm hoping someone can help me.

I've recently bought a geepstar off ebay from a guy who had it built for him, but hadn't had the wiring finished, due to him getting divorced.

it has a 12VDC battery, single motor and I think a real life toys soft start. The battery connections, mic plug (for accelerator & forward  reverse) and resistor are complete, but there are two thin wires comming from the soft start, and the - return lead from the motor which are loose. Can anyone fill me in on what the two thin black wires are for? and if the negative motor lead should go to the battery?
