New member needing help please!
« on: 25 February, 2010, 10:45:19 PM »
Hello all, you all look pretty busy! Just wondered as I have seen a few around, I am looking for a defender bonnet. Can anyone help me with this, as to where to get one?
I have started making a toylander (of sorts!!) but I think it might take some time till its all done. The main chassis is done and the gearbox/ transfer box is in place. I am halfway through the front axle at present but its taking quite a long time. It will be good when its done though (in 2020) ;D
Cheers, and look forward to hearing any knowledge on the bonnet front.
Mark.

I will show you when it's done  :D

Well basically a half scale landrover, electric powered, 4 wheel drive, 5 forward gears and 1 reverse, front and rear air lockers, winches etc.
A half scale version of my own truck for my daughter really, but she doesn't like all the waiting, she will be driving my truck before hers is finished, well, I hope to get it finished this year.
But it's quite a lot of work!
Front radius arms, the difflocks and front swivel hubs are causing a bit of a headache, well the first difflock is finished to be fair but the swivel housings are my next issue, I have thought about cheating and using 4x4 quadbike ones, and to be honest it looks the best option. I could machine them out of a piece of solid but it would take a VERY long time.
It will be finished one day!
But to make your own axle from scratch does take some time! (the cramwheel and pinion gears are out of a real L.R. diff)
The second one will obviously take half the time.
I have kept it as real to the full scale version as possible so it will look good when done, I hope.
I will still need a lot of parts from the toylander model, electrical mainly, pedal box etc, etc. so have a lot of shopping to do yet!
You don't know of a 1/2 scale defender bonnet then Richard?
