Hi Andy
Just like Mark I have used the scooter axle with regen braking and chain drive and it works really well. The problem of a chain breaking is a real one, as the diff will come into play, and I believe the vehicle would then freewheel even with with the motor stopped, but I havn't tried it!
Best Wishes

??? Hi all, I have been building up my tl1 over the last couple of days, progress is a little slow. While building I have been trying to figure out how to mount the scooter motor/transaxle assembly. I would be interested to see how others who have used mobility scooters have mounted theirs.
regards

Morning Andy,

If you look at my post: Project number 1  - Toylander 2 (in the Toylander 2 section) I have posted some pictures of my build with a mobility scooter and how I have mounted it to the tub.

thanks for the info Adam,I notice you have mounted your motor/transaxle below the tub, and I am intending to mount mine inside. I do have some ideas which I will be experimenting with although access to welding equipment would be useful for them. that is a minor issue that can be worked out I am sure.

On another note I paid a visit to Richard at rlt yesterday to collect some parts. What a very nice person he is, extremely helpful and knowledgeable. He confirmed the gear ratios required for my scooter motor to work, and supplied me with the drive conversions with the correct sprockets fitted. A very nice cup of coffee too, thanks Richard.
Regards
Andy
You are welcome and thanks for the nice comments too.

A little word of warning!!!!!!!
on sat there was some kids in the car going up a steep hill and some how one of the chains came off, and even though  it has two chains and only one came off, it still went hurtling backwards down the hill!!!
so have a think about another brake.

How did it manage that Max, one motor should have stalled it and limit the speed if the go pedal was still pressed. :o

All though I would agree, a brake is required. ::)

Max, I guess you are using a mobility scooter transaxle, for that to happen you must be getting the diff effect in reverse. I was concerned that would happen, I am intending to fit a secondary brake for that reason, although I haven't decided how best to achieve that.

My build is progressing a lot quicker than I thought it would, mainly thanks to all the useful advice stored on this forum. The TL1 is now sitting on its own wheels awaiting installation of the motor and transaxle. This will hopefully happen sometime this week once I weld up the modified motor mounts.
I have also just taken delivery of two scaled badges from Gavin. They arrived very quickly and are worth every penny, they are absolutely fantastic.

well it has been quite a while since I posted an update on my progress so I thought it was about time that i did. The motor and most of the electrics are now fitted, I completely stripped the tiller control from the mobility scooter to get the necessary controls into the dashboard of the tl. Luckily I must have got everything connected back up right as it all worked properly when I tested it.
I still have some work to do with the accellerater as my intention is to use the wig wag lever as the pedal, but I haven't figured this out fully yet.
On another note I was wondering if anyone has painted the aluminium windscreen frame or if it has been left in it's bare metal state?

Andy,
I've used the wig wag lever and mounted the pot on a new bracket with two pedals, left one for forward, right one for reverse. It needs a bit of refining to bring the pedals closer together but the pedal box still fits between the brake pedal and the side of the tub.
