Charger socket
« on: 10 November, 2009, 04:58:13 PM »
I have got a hold of a shoprider sprinter which will be used to build a s2. I have bought a charger with the correct 3 pin plug, only problem is that the wires have been pulled out of the socket, there is a green, black and a white wire. the socket is marked 1,2 and 3. I dont know what wire goes where? Can anyone help???

Hi Jock,
This is going to be a tricky one!

I've been trying to map the wiring on Harvey's car for some time now. I used a 'Shoprider' scooter, but mine was the 'Cadiz'.

According to my scribbled notes, my wiring on the charge socket is a Thick White, which goes into the the main control box (via a 15a fuse) to a terminal marked 'B+'. There is a Thick Green wire, which goes to terminal 'B-' in the control box, and a Black Wire which goes to a multi-pin plug, again in the control box.

Unfortunately, I can't find a scribble for the plug itself, so I can't tell you which wire goes to which number. If you can wait a while (later tonight or tomorrow), I will take Harvey's to pieces and let you know the findings, if that's OK?

I'll post as soon as I have more info,
Regards,
Mark.

Hi Jock
The 3 wires on the scooter are positive, negative, and inhibit.
USUALLY....
The positive is white and is pin 1.
The negative is black and is pin 2.
The inhibit is green and is on pin 3, the centre. ( it need not be connected)
On the charger plug, the negative and inhibit pins are strapped together, thus when you insert the plug a negatve signal is sent to the inhibit lead into the controller, this stops the scooter starting up if the charger is left connected.
Any difficulty, let me know
Best Wishes
Walter

Hi Guys,
I have checked the wiring on Harvey's car, and it's different to how Walter's car is wired. But Walter's car was constructed from a Soveriegn scooter (I think).

I told you this was going to be tricky.

The White is ' + ', and goes to the battery '+' wire via the control box....
The Green is ' - ', (on mine) and goes to the  battery ' - ' via the control box....
The Black is thinner, and goes to the main board (via a multi-plug) inside the control box....

On mine, The White connects to terminal 1
The Green connects to terminal 2
The Black connects to terminal 3

So now you have two ways of connecting it up. Might I suggest that you trace the wires through the loom back to the control box, this way you'll know for sure and not risk damaging anything.

Hope my learned freind and I have been of some help,
Anything else, just ask,
Regards,
Mark.

Hi Guys Yeeesss well.......
as 2 and 3 are connected together, it doesn't really matter which is which,
but we both agree that
White is positive and is teriminal 1

I have a shoprider, not a sprinter, but I'll take the cover off to check the wiring on that in the morning
sleep tight

Hi Jock
I've had a look at the wiring on my wifes buggy, which is a Shoprider 4, not the same model as yours but hopefully wiring is standard.
White......Pin 1
Black.......Pin 2
Green......Pin 3
Hope you get it sorted
Regards
Walter

Hi Jock,
It looks like a picture of the scooter might be usefull here.

The only thing you can be certain of, is you have a 50 - 50 chance of getting it right! :-\

Mark.

Hi Guys, thanks for all your replys. I bottled out in the end as the new gel batteries were not cheap and I did not want to damage them. I found a web site selling spares for mobility scooters. I bought a new socket with 3" of wire attached which plugged into the wiring loom. It works a treat, It is wired like Marks. 1 - White
                                                            2 - Green
                                                            3 - Black

Hi Jock,
It's funny that you should revive this topic.

The other day I was tidying up in the garage, and I found another charging socket. This was wired up the same as Walter's, although it came from a 'Shoprider Mayfair'!

So it looks like they have two separate companies building scooters for them, with different wiring colours!

Just goes to show you!

Keep Busy,

Mark.
