Hi Neil,
I am hoping to make a Defender after finishing my current T2 and am really impressed with the front of yours as it looks so much more realistic than any I have seen before. A couple of quick questions; how did you make the grill? It looks like you have stuck ribs onto a piece of mdf? Were these pre-shaped items or did you make them from mdf?
Also, the curved wing tops look like you have made them from mdf - is there a type that will bend this easily? (I made mine from solid softwood and planned them curved). I would have thought many more than 2 screws would have been needed to achieve this shape.
Congrats on a nice build.
Regards
Mike

Hi Mike
first of all thanks,

the little ribs are bits of 6mm quadrant from b&q of all places stuck on and the ends chamfered off but i did also routered slots out before i stuck them on to make it a bit more realistic.

and the curved wing tops are off cuts of mdf layered with plenty glue then shaped with a hand plane

i also made headlamp surrounds out of 6mm mdf

cheers

Hi where did you get your rear diff and axle off of? Is your set up only 12v? many thanx Rory.

its off a shoprider mobility scooter i think and its 24v it should still be quite powerful even though its only a single motor i still managed to drive up a very near 45 degree slope when the scooter was still complete ;D

alright Mike i used 6" wheels and the tyres measure 13 3/4 there's plenty power low down it pulled me my daughter and her two cousins up a relatively steep hill from a stand still (a hill that her geepstar struggles with just her in!) theres plenty clearance i tilted the axle so the motor and all the bulky bits are on the top half of the axle

anyway heres tonights installment

not sure what colour to paint the wheels though  :-\

top job pal thanks for the pictures of the front end. I have had a bit of bad luck on the work front and not been able to do any work on my tl2. Things have now picked and full steam ahead as summer is fast on its way to winter. your pictures will be a great help. Oh just another little question i have a mobility scooter axle and wonder if it will be alright to put 400x8 wheels straight to it. Or gear it down to a standard axle. What a good job yours is
       cheers leighton ;)
