Trailer transportation
« on: 07 September, 2009, 09:19:07 PM »
 ???
I was talking to Richard  a couple of weeks ago, ordering the mayfair plans and we got round to talking about trailers for pulling the Mayfair around behind the toy-landy. So during a saturaday afternoon with a couple of badly welded toylander axles, 10" sack truck wheels and a spare draw bar i knocked up a small flat bed trailer.... and Ping, that little grey cell of mine sprang into life.

Why don't i build a small /scale ifor williams type trailer that i can tow the cars with....

So thats going to be the project once i've finished the others....

I've started compiling bits and pieces and am now on the look out for some wheels of a suitable size....

I'm open to all ideas and comments

Regards James
James, too many projects not enough time..........!

Hi James,
Check out 'MSA Wheels and Castors' in Rochdale.

They can supply wheels with tyres, in all sorts of sizes, and at reasonable prices. They have a store on Ebay, and do alot of buisness via this, or just Google them for their website.

As for the car pulling a car and trailer Poppy, you'd be surprised, ask Walter (multisync). His car can tow his wifes mobility scooter, with her steering it, at a full 4mph!!
Also Tore and Joakim regularly tow small trailers full of either children or adults, when they are on their travels.

Hope this has helped James.
Keep Busy,
Regards,
Mark.
Bloke with too much time on his hands!

Hi All
Pulling power depends on your motor power and gearing of course, but as Mark says, my Toylander with scooter drive unit will easily pull another one fully laden, despite the fact that the mobility shop advised against it, suggesting that it was too much load on the motor.
I've seen pics and vids of others with loaded trailers too.
Don't overload the motor tho', give it a try, if there's any sign of it struggling or you notice a lack of power on load DON'T DO IT, you won't want to burn the motor out!
I'd be quite happy to fit a breakdown crane on my Toylander and make it into a tow truck for other models, now there's a thought!
Best Wishes
Walter
