transportation
« on: 20 October, 2009, 02:30:50 PM »
Hello fellow toylanders, My name is Blair and afraid to say, new to the forum and how it works, I was reading about some of you meeting up in harrogate and that got me wondering. I stay in scotland and was wondering if anybody was planning a similiar meeting up here. I dont know how many toylanders there is up here but i would like to get involved in a similar  event or get in contact with people in my area ie central scotland. I would also like to know how does everybody transport there vehicles around? I built my first toylander1  3yrs ago roughly and would have liked the forum to be around then to ask all the questions i asked Richard over the phone. I am planning to build another one shortly for my daughter to stop the fighting between her and her big brother.  Please feel free to give me your suggestions and excuse my spelling mistakes, I hope everybody that goes to harrogate enjoys the banter and they all have fun, and the weather is kind tio them.       Best of luck to you all and keep building the cars Blair

Hello Blair and welcome to the Toylander forum.

I think the Harrogate meet is the first one organised by a forum member for forum members and I hope it is a great success.

Whilst I am a Yorkshire man and only about fourty miles from Harrogate, I doubt I will be in attendance as I have been scheduled to be doing other things on that day by members of my family.

The last Toylander meet was organised by our esteemed founder, Richard, and took place earlier this year at the Landrover Fest at Newark Showground. It did seem to be a great success as several builders did turn up during the day, but I only saw two who had brought along there cars.

This I did attend, but not with my T2 build as I do not have a tow hook on my latest car unfortuanately, but I do have a trailer.

The two members who did bring there T's were Walter, [Multisysnc] and Mark.  They both used trailers, and my Grandson had a test drive in both models.

I think a trailer seems to be the favoured option, although I have seen a photo on here of a T2 in the back of a Volvo estate.  I suppose if you have access to a van, this would be ideal.

As far as fellow Scottish builders go, the fact you have posted on here should shake a few out of the woodwork, we will have to wait and see.

Regards,

Brian.

Brian many thanks for your reply,
It looks like i will have to look the cheap add sections of the weekly lies news for a trailer as this seems to be the best method so far of moving car around not unless fellow builders come up with anything better i know how resourcefull we builders can be. What looks like rubbish to someone can be treasure to someone else. I hope i have started something up here as to meeting fellow builders, hopefully resulting in some of us doing something similar to harrogate job, I didnt know about last meeting with our leader Richard it would be nice to put a face to the voice after all these years i will note this for next year!! It would also be good to see other cars and again put faces to people on the forum as well. Lets wait and see what happens maybe we can all attend an annual convention on toylanders somewhere! But most of all keep the forum going with a wealth of ideas and sharing our knowledge to whoever needs it.                   Many thanks Brian   regards Blair
What about a motto for us all post suggestions please    Blair

Hi Blair, and welcome.

As Brian rightly states, I use a 4' x 3' trailer to move Harvey's wee car about.
There are some pictures of it on the forum somewhere, I think they are in the 'General Discussion' section, under 'Trailer Modifications'.

The front board of the box has been made removable, and I' ve added a shallow frame to the front of the trailer, above the draw-bar, for the front wheels of the car to rest in, similar to a 'Spectacle' towing lift, I then hold the Toylander in place with small ratchet straps, which secure around the frame at the front, and into 2" holes drilled into the floor of the trailer, to hold the rear end in place.

Walter on the other hand modified a Motorcycle trailer, which he had. He added two small rails for the Toylander, and straps it down with ratchet straps as I do.

I would suggest a trailer that will be 'Dual Purpose' would be the best option, like a small box trailer. So that you can use it for duties such as rubbish removal etc; and Toylander haulage when the need arises.

You might have problems if you need to transport both your cars though, as some local authorities have regulations on the size of trailers allowed onto waste sites, so it might be worth checking beforehand.

I hope your idea of a Central Scottish meeting bears fruit, as Brian says, you might just have 'shaken the bushes' with the suggestion. ;)

Keep Busy,
Regards,
Mark.

Mark. thanks for reply,
Many thinks to think about now, ive had a look in general discussions regarding trailers etc few good ideas in there, some pictures of various trailers as well, loads for me to be digesting, this forum lark is really good. Lets hope im able to help someone out with some information if i know the answer. My brother works with caravans so going to see what he can come up with.  Looks like the Central Scotland Toylander Club is a non starter, Lets wait and see, still time for folk to get in touch via the forum, Remember "Dont let the jigsaw beat you!"    Regards to you Blair

Sorry you didn't get the mail re Newark Blair but I think we did have problems with your previous mailings. We had 12 visitors with their cars on one of the days and 6 the next, plus the four we had there; two of my show models and Land Rover Monthly magazine's two. The most used model is one was a Toylander 2 owned by the Peacock boys who also were first and second in the Trial on Saturday evening.
Best wishes
Richard

There is another transport method? I have a Dodge Ram! Fits EASILY in the back of that, bonus is go on holiday, turn toylander sideways on tailgate & you have an instant workbench. Sorted!
