Harrogate meet
« on: 12 October, 2009, 10:02:47 AM »
Hi All,
I have spoken to a couple of ofther builders and we are hoping to meet up at Harrogate on the 200acre Stray. For those that dont know the area it's a large mown grass area thats usually really quiet. I was hoping to get together in October but it's now looking like being 1 Sunday in November. Is anyone else interested in meeting. The only consideration will be weather! If you are interested please reply with a list of dates that you can make it and then we can get something definate penciled in the diary! It will be really good to see what has been done on different models.
Thanks
Ted

Hi All,
I've just come back from Harrogate, what a laugh.
The day went off without a hitch. Brian called off the border patrols, so we didn't need to bombard them with sticky buns!
There were only three cars there in the end, Ted's almost completed T2.

David B's lovely T1....

and Harvey's T2....

But the kids still had a good day out.

The weather was kind, if a little cold, but this didn't stop everyone enjoying themselves, and we drew quite a crowd.

Ted used this as a 'shake down' run, and his little car did really well, despite having 4 passengers at one stage....

Just one or two teething problems, but nothing major.

One of Ted's friends brought his little lad along, and Harvey took Ryan for a ride round (someone's going to be building one for Christmas)....

And even let Ryan have a drive himself....

Ryan's dad tried out David's car....

So there will be some midnight oil burnt there, I think.

Despite there being three cars wizzing about, there were no accidents, and no-one got run over!!

Harvey managed to find a soft spot of field while we were looking for everyone else, and span the tyres for about 20 yards, leaving two long muddy ruts. The parky will be wondering what made the marks!!

It was nice to meet everyone, and put faces to names, but I've managed to forget Ryan's dad's name, Doh!

Here's to the next outing, hopefully it'll be a little warmer!

Keep Busy,
Regards to all,
Mark.

Mark,
That's very impressive speed and great coverage.....The photos look great.

I enjoyed seeing the other cars and putting faces to names is always good.

William's been talking about the other land rovers since. That was our first muddy trip (shows the age of ours!) so when we got home if was a bucket of soapy water to wash down those muddy tyres.

Seeing how you'd integrated so many controls into the dash was really good and defintley left a bit of food for thought....I'm thinking that a speedo may be next followed by the battery meter and a 'meatier' horn.Mind you i need to get that toylander trailer finished (or should i say started!)

I'll download my photos tomorrow and if there are any interesting ones will upload....

Would be good to meet up again - hopefully get some more cars along and do it on a warmer day.

Hi David,
I'm glad that the little chap enjoyed himself.  Harvey's car has been put in the shed for now, the wash down and re-charge can wait until tomorrow!

I must say how nicely turned out your T1 is, a really nice job, you should be pleased with your efforts!

Harvey has also been quite enthused about the day, and has explained to Nana about the other cars and driving Ryan about, even about letting him have a go in his car.

Thank you and your good lady, for letting Harvey have a go in Williams T1, I can see Grandad having to build another 'Green' one, or re-paint the T2!! :-\

Let's hope for a better attendance (and warmer weather) for the next one.
We might have to change the venue after Harvey's 20 ft 'Burn-out' across the grass, I think we might be banned from Harrogate!! ::)

Keep Busy,
Regards,
Mark.

Hello David, I'm pleased the day went well for you all.

With regard to dashboard design, I have posted a picture of the Mk1 dashboard I made for our T2.

Then, in the spirit of adventure that all Toylanders seem to embrace, I have done a Mk2 version.

Morning all,
It was great yesterday. Sorry I didnt get to speak to you more than I did - too busy chasing my boy round the stray in an attempt to prevent an accident!
Here are a few pic's.

David,
Your T1 was really nice. Your wife said there were a few choice words during the build but what a credit that land rover is to you! A really nice model.
Mark,
As we drove away discussing the models I now have a list as long as my arm of things to add/change after seeing your T2. Another really nice model with what must be hours & hours of work gone in. Mine is not even finished yet and I'm drawing up changes....

Some of my friends that turned up are already planning their first builds so Richard - get ready for the phone calls placing orders for plans etc.!

Hi Ted,

Yes, the outing was a good laugh. I think that the gent I was talking to (Mike?) who is Ryan's dad has a task in hand.

The first thing Ryan said was 'Dad, can I have one?', so I can see someone spending long nights and weekends in the workshop!

Especially after I got Harvey to drive him around, and let Ryan take the wheel, cor I'm cruel!!

I have to agree with you on the subject of David's T1, a beautifully turned out example, and a credit to his efforts.

I must say that yours coped really well, especially transporting four little 'uns about for the majority of the afternoon.
I'm beginning to have doubts about the batteries in Harvey's car. I think they might need replacing soon, as they were getting tired by the end of the day, but running on soft grass does seem to exhaust them faster.
Either that, or it's the heat due to the motor / axle / control box are in such a confined space. I did have to re-set the thermal cut out a couple of times during the day, so that's another job on the 'To Do' list.

As for the modifications, that's what winter is for. Harvey's has been running (I won't say 'Finished') for a little over 18 months now, and as I don't work, I've had lots of time to complete the various mods.
Modifications can be completed when time allows, or when they can be fitted into the build schedule, but that's the curse of these meetings, you always see something else you'd  like to incorporate into your build.

I feel for you (being a glutton for punishment) having two to complete, but after seeing the nice trailer you brought, I would have thought there was room for at least 6 on that!! :D :D

Maybe you could offer a collection service for the North Yorks area, next time we all go to Newark, so Toylanders can take over, and make Richard's dream come true!!

Here's to the next meeting,
Best Regards,
Mark.

Well, ... what can I say except 'thank you all' for flying the Toylander flag all over the fields in Harrogate on Sunday. I have been to google earth to see the tyre tracks that were left behind and someone has driven 'Toylanders were here' in twin tracks! :D I am only sorry I did not fight my way north of Watford. Would it be too pushy to ask if one of you guys would mind sending Cathie at LRM, [or the magazine of your choice but I draw the line at the Pencil Collector's Review] some piccies please? We still have a lot of owners who built their cars before we had a club and we could encourage a few others perhaps?
Many thanks for your efforts. :)
Regards Richard
Best wishes
Richard

Hi Guys
Well what can I say, I hate you all! for having such a good day out, and I couldn't get to join you.
It's a pity only three cars made it on the day but "great trees from little acorns" etc. I've no doubt that it will be the first of many such gatherings, and I hope that I can join up with you next time, perhaps I can fit it in with a camping break next summer. Lets try to keep up the momentum and get something else organised!
Well done and best wishes to all who took cars or just went as spectators.
Regards to all
