My Mairfair Build
« on: 06 September, 2009, 10:24:04 PM »
September 6th 2009

I've started My Mayfair Build, even though i'm still waiting on my plans from Richard, I've been thinking on how i want to finish the car and how i would like it to look.

Today i've put together part of the dashboard instrumentation, comprisiong of an old brass preasure gauge which i've polished up, replaced its dial with one i've drawn in photoshop to represent the Speedo (0 to 30 mph).
James, too many projects not enough time..........!

Here you go Brian My First picture, One Brass Speedo,
I've now aquired another pressure gauge in which i'm thinking i could put a battery gauge, bike speedo and some ignition lights, Thinking H.G.Wells here.... in terms of looks anyway.

The Dial was created in photoshop, i may mount it on plastic and back light it yet.....

All comments and ideas welcome....

On the negative side it could end up  Barbie Pink and Purple ARGH!!!!!!!!! :'(

The positive side is that Royal mail have a parcel for me they couldn't deliver.... me thinks my plans... ;)

Parts and Materials are now being assembled, metal work for the front axle is now completed and ready for welding. Some alterations to the design have been made and the mods sketched and drawn up, can't wait to get going but alas the Build is now on hold until 22nd Sept as away on hols  ;D

Laters then

;D The Build is back on, Slight set back with the Plywood (not what i ordered, but i can't wait 4 weeks for the right stuff to come in).

First stage of the Build is to make the Dummy engine houseing comprising of 2 bulkheads and 2 inner wings (valances), and MOD number 1, i've increased the height of the valances and bulkheads by 12mm /1/2", this is to make room to fit 2 17Ah batteries, for additional power or to run some onboard equipment.

Next was to cut out the floor enter MOD number 2, the standard length of a Mayfair is 44", width of plywood sheet 48".
The reason for the extra length is that i want to fit a luggage rack to the boot lid and to open the lid needs a little extra length. I've lengthened the boot by 2 1/2 " and the cockpit by 1 1/2"

Total build time so far 2 Hrs

MOD number 3, if you havent already guessed it, will be the body side panels, lengthened at either end by the measurements above.

I can't make up my mind at this point if i want to include a pair of doors, which will mean cutting the panels slightly differently.... Any thoughts on doors or not to door greatly appreciated :o

Any thoughts on "doors or not to door" greatly appreciated.

I thought the line read, "to be, or not to be".  But I could be, and often am, wrong. :D

Sorry James, just back off holiday and feeling well. :D

I think if the door installation does not compromise the build strength, then a pair of suicide doors, ie front opening, gives you lots of possibilities for adding more period gadgets.  How about a pair of wrought iron old fashioned gate latches etc. with T hinges to match and lots of studs in the doors.  A couple of those cheap tin lanterns, with the tea light holders, painted brass, at the side of the windscreen as headlamps.  :D

Regards,

Brian.

I Guess GREAT MINDS think alike then Brian  ;D

I may  leave the door cutting until after the tub is built now, just so i can see which would work better front or rear opening when the steering is in place.
