Deluxe dished bonnet
« on: 25 July, 2009, 09:36:54 AM »
Hi all!

From varoius pictures here, I gather that most of you have the "standard" bonnet on your Toylander.  Most of the Land Rovers I see around have the "Deluxe" bonnet with a "dish" in them for the spare.

Beeing in the habit of doing everything as complicated as possible, I wanted a deluxe dished bonnet on my Toylander.

I hot-wired a polystyrene block into the approximate shape of the bonnet, and added plywood profiles to the back and front.  The "dish" was cut using a home-made tool and a drill.  A lot of sanding later, I could cover it in fiberglass and epoxy.  It even has a layer of carbon fiber for strength :)

Last night, I finally got around to painting it.

If anyone is interrested, you will find pictures of the entire process in my Toylander picture gallery at http://www.orpetveit.no/index.php/en/toylander/toylander-photo-gallery page 6 and on.

I could probably build a stock Toylander in the time I've spent on this bonnet alone.

Hi,

Yes, the headlights are LED.  109 LEDs in each lamp, actually.  Found them on eBay a few years ago, a pair of flashlights costing next to nothing.  They are still out there - for example item 350170563886.  I had to rewire the LEDs to use it on 24V without too much loss, though.

They look just like Xenon-lamps, which I must admit is not very realistic on a Land Rover.  But they provide great light for night driving, and makes the Toylander easy to spot for the other cars on the road.

Hi Stan
I've bought loads of small modelling parts from HongKong, always use PayPal, and never had a problem. Check the sellers feedback first of course.
Best of luck
