Brakes
« on: 07 June, 2009, 09:09:01 PM »
I know some of you have used special brakes for your cars but do you think there is any need for a system that cuts the power if the user/rider presses both the brake and throttle at the same time, it seems to me that you could put a huge strain on the transmission if the brake is held on by mistake.
I would appreciate some brake assembly photos if possible please.

Hello JBob.

I agree that a child will not appreciate the concept of Brake and accelerator being seperate actions and should not be undertaken together and I can imagine both pedals being in use together on some occasions.

Because of this I have included a power kill circuit on my build, this is operated by an application of hand or foot brake, It will also cut the power if the bonnet is not secured, and finaly, I have a plip operated relay box mounted under the bonnet, which cut's the power from upto a 100Mtrs away just in case my three year old grandson tries to escape.  Sneaky eh?? ;)

There is the circuit diagram on the forum some where, can't remember where at the moment. ::)

I see you have found the diagram.

Whoops, you beat me to the post JBob, I'm sorry the circuit complexity is a problem :-[

Regards,

Brian.

Hi JB,
I have made provision to fit Disc Brakes and Calipers to Harvey's car, but at a later date, when he is a bit older and understands the 'One to Go, One to Stop' principal.

As most of these cars are being built for younger drivers (under 6), I would leave the braking to an electronic device, such as the one's fitted to the Motobility Scooters, to keep things simple.

After all, we have enough to wory about!! :-\

Regards,
Mark.

Errr yeh the problem with electronic brakes is that i dont have any, the system does have re-gen braking but i doubt it will stop it.
I like the idea of a remote cutout, what did you use for that.?
