Here is a picture from behind:

Funny you should mention the remote cut-out system - remote emergency stop and anti theft alarm is the next project.  After getting the carbon fibre and epoxy resin deluxe dished bonnet painted.

One never finish a project like this...

Hi Guys,
Saw this on Aldi's website last night. I've just been to Aldi and checked them out, and they seem ideal for what we want, so I bought one.

http://www.aldi.co.uk/uk/html/offers/58_9693.htm

It has 30 functions, but can be set in 'Basic' mode for those amongst us who are 'Technophobic' (like me).

One of the main functions is the 'Wheel Size' option, which, like Tore's unit, can be set to the nearest mm.
The unit is slightly bigger than a 50p piece, and comes with 4 cable ties, 3 rubber rings for mounting the unit to the handlebars, the wheel magnet (very small), and the sensor / pick-up unit.
There are VERY comprehensive instructions, which need to be read Before setting anything.
Just a note, the unit itself is about 50 x 50 mm, the instruction sheet is the size of the 'Times' newspaper, and printed (in English) on BOTH sides!!

At this price they won't last long, so get 'em while they're there!!

Keep Busy,
Regards,
Mark.

P.S. I'm off to Aldi for another one!!

Hi Guys
Tore...what have you started now! Another mod I have added to my list of things to do!
Thanks for the info Mark......I rushed down to Aldi ........and bought two......just in case.

I havn't seriously tried to fit it yet, but I note that they say the magnet should be within 5 mm of the sensor! I wonder if a stronger magnet would allow for a bigger gap.
Will try to experiment a bit and see what is suitable.
Take care
Walter

I have now logged 33 km in our Toylander after fitting Bicycle computer.
I have used 1162mm for Circumference for the original wheels 3.50-8 supplied by Richard.

I have only two drivers. Now waiting for Tore his three drivers! I think they soon will drive very far and get a lot of fun Kilometers with their Toylander!

Hi Joakim,
As you may have read, I have just bought a Cycle Speedo / Odometer from Aldi, which, like your Sigma units, allows you to set the wheel diameter in mm.

I have used 8 inch trailer wheels on my build, with 4.80 x 8 ins 4 ply tyres fitted, and the circumference of these works out at 1265 mm, with the diameter at 16 ins, so not much difference in diameter to yours.

I can't wait to get it fitted and try it out, I have an idea on how to mount the magnet close in to the sensor, but will have to work it out properly.
I intend to mount the magnet on a piece of 3 mm thick wire, which will be attached with small bolts to the trailer hub, then bent into shape to suit, for the position of the magnet / sensor (hopefully).

I don't know how many miles Harvey will do, but Grandad will be walking along behind getting his exercise! ::)

Keep Busy,
Regards,
Mark.

I would have thought the magnet could go on any of the rotating parts not just the wheel.

Hi Anthony,
With the standard 'Toylander' design the front wheel is the only rotating part available to fix the magnet to, as the cable on the speedometer isn't long enough to fix it to a rear wheel.

Keep Smiling,
Regards,
Mark.

Hi,

As Joakim has previously mentioned, you can probably cut and lengthen the pick-up cable.  The cable on the Sigma is a single pair, unshielded and untwisted cable.  I've added a connector at the wheel and at the dashboard, and the cable in between is substantionally longer than the original. Testing has shown that it works fine.
