Where are the Mayfair builders?

I built one of these wonderfull toys about 25 years ago, no posts? Are none being built? I've deliberately put this under 'general' hoping more people might look! Come on someone, lets read about it.

Here's one!Seem were in a bit of a minority!
 
Iv'e built the body tub built and am just fitting the wings.These are the old style using two seperate pieces of MDF for each wing cut and shaped - not like the curved profile of the ones in the pics.For the front and rear wing mounting bars I've used old microphone boom arms which are 3/8" diameter chrome plated brass tubing, and to fix the wings to these I butchered a couple of old shoot bolts(as used on most back gates) and used some bits from those.
I'm also considering using a couple of copper 90deg elbows and a bit of pipe fixed to the "engine" side panels to create a dummy exhaust system and if the electrics/PCB etc., are fitted under the bonnet, the cables to the battery and motor could go through them under the body to keep them neat and tidy
I'd be pleased to send some pics if you're interested. I've got all the bits and electrics from Richard who to say the least has a been extremely helpful and a real pleasure to do business with.
I also bought a set of original Jeep plans in 1987 from a kit car show and did'nt start building that until about 8 years ago.
If you've still got your Mayfair I'd like to see a pic of it especially the dashboard area so I can decide how to go about mine when the time comes.

Hello brianR, at last somebody else has admitted to having a Mayfair. Unfortunately mine, sorry both my daughters Mayfair was sold many many years ago, by the ancient method of ad in a local paper. Remember THAT method? I have been trying to find pictures without any joy yet!

sorry BrianR, should have said. I really cannot recall the dash at all, don't know why. Age thing probably! All I do remember is because we were really short of money I literally made everything, including drive gears etc on a mill at work! I too made mdf wings, but mounted on electrical conduit.

I Can't wait to get started, I'm currently building a toylander 2, which seems to be an on going, stop gap, project as it is not stock built, and i now have 3 Months in which to build a Mayfair for my nieces Birthday, Plans, patterns and manual on route from Richard....

Does anyone have any pdf type pages for building any of the parts? as i'm itching to get started and time is of the essence, it would be greatly appreciated....

I'm intending to use a mobility scooter rear end for the drive ( motor/gearbox/transaxle asembly),i'll keep my progress posted if it works

OK, it's time I came out! I built a Mayfair and can honestly say I enjoyed it immensely. It took longer than I expected but it was well worth it. My daughter would agree aswell!

I will take soime pictures when I get round to it.

Hi,

No modifications planned for this build.  Following the build manual to the letter.  I've even ordered the wheels from RLT.

Richard has suggested I try a battery drill for power though.  I might just do that if I can get a DeWalt drill from eBay for less than NOK 200,-

You uploaded a couple of pictures some posts up, but they seems to have gone AWOL during the forum crash?

I seem to remember that your beautiful Mayfair had a dashboard, and...  I'd like to see it again for inspiration

Yes they seem to have gone wrong somewhere!!

Try these. I will get a closer picture of the dashboard.

It is basicly plywood covered in a soft vinyl. It is a bit tricky getting it to stretch around the curves but a little patience and you will get away with it.
