Richard

Tis done!

I used a piece of paper between underside of pedal and top of stop (cross head screw) to get it just right. Too high and it ripped the paper, too low and it offered no resistance. Took a few twists and turns but I now have a throttle stop. Thanks!

Well, we are sort of finished. A few minor mods and bits to do - for example , tidying up the battery bay and stopping them bouncing about. Windscreen on. Tax disk (from his birthday) installed on the Rag Club sticker.

Munchkin - not that you can guess his name - loves it and we keep popping off down the Suffolk lanes to go to the pub, do some PYO or whatever and it takes ages as a) he can't do a straight line and b) people keep stopping to ask questions.

If the mods want to put these in the Gallery, feel free

Hi Tosh,
Now then, you said it was finished, we all know that it will never be completely 'Finished', as there's always something else to do!

You never finish (especially as you're a member of the forum), because you will look at it one day and think....
'I wish I'd done that differently....',
or
'If I change that for one of those, and fit it to there, it'll look more authentic....'

I thought I'd finished Harvey's last May, but the more I looked, the more I saw I'd missed, or rushed, and the car under-went a 'Re-fit' over the winter, and now I'm getting fidgety and building another!!

The pictures look fantastic, the little chap looks like he's on safari in all that long grass!!
As long as he's happy, just wait for the 'Daaad, can you make it go faster??'

Happy Days...

Keep Busy,
Regards,
Mark.

Thanks Mark

Door handles, a walkie talkie, working indicators, windscreen wipers (his request), putting the wheels on the right way round, a trailer and a seat cushion are all on the to do list.

Then there's the touching up of the paint, thinking through making the doors actually open, a rack so he can hold a wee ladder and be a fireman..... gonna be a fun winter!

Faster will be terrifying: He's crashed into trees twice already this morning.

Hi Tosh,
What can I tell you....With experience comes knowledge!! ;)

Harvey has decided he wants his car re-painting Blue now!!

I wouldn't mind, but I wanted 'Marine Blue' in the first place, he chose Red!

I am contemplating making another body, but true 'Half Scale' this time. The original now has so many holes and modifications, and is looking rather tatty.
I have a neighbour who has a Series 3 - 110" wheelbase. So I've measured up the matching panels, and a half-pint Landy would only be a couple of inches wider, and 4" longer, so that might be this years 'Winter Project'.

Kids.. Can't live with 'em, can't eat 'em! :-\

Keep Busy,
Regards,
Mark.

Hi Tosh
Well done
Thats just about 2 months from start to finish, I'm retired and it took me about 3 months!!!!
Your test driver looks delighted, and thats the main thing.
As Mark says, now you'll find all the mods you want to do, and give yourself another 2 months work!
Best wishes
Walter

Hi Mark,
I remembered either you or Walter saying that they thought the T2 would look more realistic if it was about 2" wider so I typed wider into the search bar and found this post. Did you ever decide to make the exact 1/2 scale Landrover body? I think the T2 is only about 2.3:1 scale. The reason I ask is that I was lucky enough to buy some lawnmower wheels with turf tyres off ebay last week. They are the same 16" o/d and 8" dia wheels as Richard's but the tyres are 6.50 wide vs 3.50. I was really lucky - when I arrived to pick them up, the seller told me they were brand new and had been sitting on the shelf for years! He was right as the tyres still have the rubber hairs on the treads from the moulds. In the photo on ebay, they looked really scruffy but they were just so covered in dust!
I also noticed that Gremlin has the same tyres and made his body wider to accomodate them. Were you planning to make a 1/2 scale 90" or 110"? I worked out the 110" would be about 1' longer, not 4" but I think the 90" has better proportions for a toy pick-up version.
This will be my second T2 (need to get my friend to collect the first one to make room in the garage to work on another one now) so I'm hoping to make fully articulated suspension like Gremlin, Donny Darko etc. using triangular frames. I'm sure these wide tyres will need a reduction gearbox for the steering as it will be heavy. (This is in addition to the 6” wheels with fat tyres, two with motors attached, that I also bought recently for my “secret project”!)
Regards
Mike

Hi Mike
I'm glad you found the culprit and can blame Mark not me!
The one critical thing to consider, is that for many people the Toylander has to pass through a house or a shed doorframe, so width may need to be a bit of a compromise, storage can be a problem too. My garage is a like the parking lot at a scrapyard, full of half finished projects and dismembered units. You sound like you're following the same route as me, buying up useful bits and then thinking " now what shall I make out of hat?"
Best of luck with the whatever.

Hi Walter,
That's funny because I did have you down as the culprit until I did a search! I thought it was you that had mentioned that 1" wider on each side would make the T2 look more realistic. Yes I thought that it had been deliberately kept to 28" wide to fit through a door, like a scooter. That doesn't really bother me as the back garden is small and I only tend to trundle up and down the pavement about 4 houses away!
So, my garage (or more precisely, my mum's garage as I'm living with her at the moment) houses a finished T2, 8 wheels, a partly dismantled/gutted for motor etc Pride Hurricane (which I need to advertise on ebay to make room) and the low cost Lightning (made from a kitchen-swing-bin) that I started to fill in the time! Oh, and I 'm just about to bid for another motor tonight!!
Regards
Mike
