Hi there
Don't get bogged down worrying about router size, most of the panels are straight cuts, and can be cut out with a circular saw.
It's only the long sides and the inner wings that have curved lines. The dust created by using a router on mdf is a major snag.
I know others have done it, and I understand the concept of routing from a template, especially as it gives identical results, but it's simpler to cut out the items with a jigsaw. The router is handy to round over the panel edges but not essential.
You mention a 1/2 inch router, a great tool, but the price of the cutters is prohibitive.
Unless you have lots of other uses for it, stick with the cheapy DIY models.
