Toylander on National BBC news
« on: 15 February, 2009, 04:20:54 PM »
Hello to all you fellow builders,

I have only just found this forum since the snow, and having built a Toylander 2 (which still needs finishing) I thought I'd join.
On the day of the snow, I took my daughter for a ride down the village, me driving and Skye being towed on a sledge.

I got a friend to video us and sent the clip into the BBC, who showed a small clip of us on the 6 o'clock news. I did try and get her to tow me but the wheels were just spinning (we were on grass tho)
Anyway the link to see the clip is
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7866000.stm

We appear after about 40 seconds.

I will be posting some pics on here of the car, as I have used a mobility motor that is mounted under the floor pan, and used a go-kart steering wheel.

Its fantastic that there is now a sight for us all to bounce ideas about.

Its taken about 2 years to get the car running - a bit here, and a bit there but mobile for her 5th brithday. So far the bumper is the best bit, its whithstood a full speed collision with a lamp-post and a bollard and still not dented. :-[

I will post more with pictures later.

Well done everyone, all the pictures and talk has made me think of a few modifications.

Catch you later

Andre

Hi Andre, and welcome to the forum! ;)

I have just viewed the link, and it's a shame there is not more footage!
You say you're not finished with your build, but as many have said already, they are never really finished.
There is always something else you can do, or improve, as I have recently found out.
I completed the little car for my Grandson (Red S2 with 'Silver' wheels in Gallery), in April last year, but I felt that some of the work had been rushed to complete the build. So, over the winter, I have addressed some of these problems, and made a few modifications as well.

For me, the trouble with the forum is that it gives you so many ideas, if I were still building (or starting to build), I'd never get the thing finished!!

Look forward to seeing your pictures and hearing your ideas, don't be shy, we don't bite!

Keep Busy,
Regards,
Mark.

Bloke with too much time on his hands!

Hi Andre
It may only be a short clip, but its great;
Well done and welcome, but as Mark said, don't listen to us, you'll only get ideas for more work;
Best wishes
Walter (blue S2 with 'Toylander' lettering on side and bonnet)
